Marc is 46 and has represented the city centre on Manchester City Council since May 2000, first as councillor for Central Ward, and then since May 2004 as Councillor for City Centre ward. He was also Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Manchester Central at the general election in 2005, and has recently been selected unanimously by local Liberal Democrats to stand again at the next general election.

He is a member of the Council's Executive Consultative Committee as well as the Personnel Committee.

As a local councillor regularly speaks out on issues that affect city centre residents. This includes speaking up on behalf of residents concerned about the way their neighbourhhod is being developed; campaigning to tackle the problems of noisy bars and anti social behaviour; urging the Council to do more on green issues such extending recycling, improving our parks and fighting for more street trees and planting. He believes strongly in supporting residents at local level and attends many local meetings to listen to their concerns and to take action to improve the quality of life for local residents.

Marc's family is from Manchester, but in 1966 they emigrated to Australia where he grew up with his younger brother and sister in Melbourne. He returned to the UK in 1978 and he came Manchester to study in 1982. He graduated in History and Politics and was elected President of the Manchester Polytechnic Students' Union 1985 to 1986. He has held a variety of senior posts in higher education. He also went on to gain a Masters Degree in Employment Law from the University of Leicester.

Since 2001 he has been a governor at St Patrick's Primary School in Collyhurst and a Director of the social enterprise business Community Security Ltd based in Ancoats, East Manchester. He works as an Employment Tribunal Advocate.

He has a 19 year old son, and lives with his partner Tim in East Manchester. In his spare time he enjoys reading, travel, gardening and going to the gym.
